About the Royal Ascot Event

There is over £8 million in prize money that will be awarded at the event, and each day has a seven-race card. Throughout the entire year, Ascot hosts 25 days of racing. The schedule includes 16 Flat meetings between May and October, as well as nine National Hunt meetings between November and April.

The event kicks off with the Group 1 Queen Anne Stakes, followed by the King’s Stand Stakes that same afternoon. While some of the world’s fastest sprinters will run in that race, the same-day St James’s Palace Stakes will see three-year-old English, Irish, and French Guineas winners.

The biggest of all the races is the Royal Meeting, which is held in June. During the event, there are eight Group 1 races in total, and the feature is the Ascot Gold Cup, which is held on Thursday. The race takes place over a distance just short of two and a half miles.

Royal Ascot Betting Types

There are a few different Royal Ascot betting types that might look different than the traditional wagering that takes place in US horse racing. Here are some Ascot racing tips. Make sure to pay attention to the various Royal Ascot betting offers.

One of the most simple and common types of bets are “Win Only Bets.” This means that you are selecting a horse to win in any of the 30 races that are set to run. The selected horse needs to finish first, no exceptions.

The “Win Only Bet” can be placed way in advance, which means you can get the best values for your picks.

“Each-Way Bets” are made up of two bets, which means your stakes are doubled. Half of the amount of the bet will be placed on the horse to win, while the other will go on the horse being placed. This means that your horse has to finish in one of the top three spots, giving you a good chance at bringing in some winnings.

An “Accumulator Bet” is a good choice due to the number of top-quality races taking place every day. This means that your bets can build on one another, and you can score a lot of winnings by building up the odds.

Another popular Royal Ascot bet is a “Placepot Bet.” This bet requires you to select a horse that will place in the first six races at a meeting. The stake then goes into a pool, which is divided between the winners.

There are a few differences between the types of bets offered for the Royal Ascot and those a US bettor might traditionally see. However, with some Ascot racing tips, it does not take long to learn how to participate in Britain’s biggest racing event of the year.

Royal Ascot online betting makes it easy for anyone to wager on the exciting event. Due to the high-profile nature of the meet, there are many Royal Ascot betting offers available for Royal Ascot Online Betting.

Royal Ascot Betting History

The history of the Royal Ascot began in 1711 when Queen Anne discovered land near East Cote, a village that eventually became called Ascot. She viewed the area as a great place for racing horses and purchased it for £558. The area became the Royal Racecourse, and the Queen and her court attended the first horse race that year.

Racing became less popular under the reign of King George I, following the death of Queen Anne. King George I did not have any interest in sporting events, but racing did eventually pick back up again at the Royal racecourse in 1920.

Racing and betting at the course followed many of the same formats that are still present today.

The racing event still holds great importance and tradition under the current Queen Elizabeth II. Each day of the meet, she leaves Windsor Castle in an open horse-drawn carriage and leads the Royal Procession at Royal Ascot.

The Queen Anne Stakes commemorates the course’s tradition and foundation.

Besides racing, there are other important aspects of the meet, including fashion and dress. There are often extravagant hats worn by the women attending the event.

Royal Ascot Gold Cup

The Royal Ascot Gold Cup, a Group 1 flat horse race open to four-year-olds and up, is the most anticipated race of the meeting. It is run at the track over a distance of two miles, three furlongs, and 210 yards, and it is Britain’s most prestigious event for “stayers,” which are horses that specialize in long-distance running.

Because of the popularity of the race, there are many Royal Ascot betting tips for it. As the race gets nearer, there will be more information about the runners. Follow the Royal Ascot betting tips closely to be prepared to bet on the Gold Cup.

Royal Ascot Ladies Day

Another one of the anticipated events during the meeting is the Royal Ascot Ladies Day, which will, unfortunately, be affected due to the track being closed to the public for this year’s edition. The day includes the big Gold Cup race, and women are traditionally highlighted for fashion and dress. The name was a response to what was seen as a men-only activity.

Royal Ascot Entries

This year’s runners have been difficult to judge due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and there is a lot of doubt surrounding some racehorses. However, there are some to keep an eye on for the Ascot races.

The entire list of Royal Ascot entries won’t be announced until right before the race, but there are some top prospects. Due to its prestige and importance, the races in the Royal Ascot will contain some of the world’s best runners.

Horses who have previously run at Ascot often perform better, and the Group 3 Sagaro Stakes runs in May as a prep for the Gold Cup. The two-mile race often serves as an indicator for which horses will perform well at Ascot, with the most recent example being Estimate in 2013, who won the Sagaro Stakes and the Gold Cup.

1. Stradivarius

Everyone talks about 2019 Royal Ascot winner Stradivarius, the first horse in 10 years to win it twice in a row. The Irish-bred Thoroughbred is now six years old, and his last couple of seasons have been impressive.

Stradivarius took back-to-back wins at Goodwood Cup, Lonsdale Cup, Yorkshire Cup, and the Gold Cup. His two-year win streak was broken at QIPCO British Champions Long Distance Cup by Kew Gardens.

2. Battaash

Battaash, trained by Charlie Hills, is at the best point in his career. He has yet to win at Ascot, but the sprinter is unbeaten in Goodwood for two straight years. He is set to be one of the fastest horses this season.

3. Kew Gardens

The Aidan O’Brien-trained Kew Gardens missed the last Gold Cup due to injury, and it wasn’t known if he would even make a return to racing. However, he returned impressively and took the Long Distance Cup over Stradivarius.

By the time of this year’s Gold Cup, there is a good chance that Kew Gardens can be the top favorite.

4. Dee Ex Bee

Dee Ex Bee almost won the 2019 Gold Cup, finishing second behind Stradivarius. There is still a lot of confidence surrounding the horse, even after he finished behind Stradivarius in three races this season.

5. Cross Counter

Cross Counter, trained by Charley Appleby, became the first British horse to win the Melbourne Cup in 2018. However, he finished eighth in the 2019 edition.

He is a strong contender for this year’s Gold Cup, but he is up against top competition.

6. Technician

Technician, trained by Martyn Meade, took the Prix Royal-Oak. The 3-year-old also won a Listed, a Group Three, a Group Two, and a Group One, all against older competition.

He has scored five wins this season, and it will be his Gold Cup debut.

7. Sir Ron Priestley

One of Mark Johnson’s hopefuls, Sir Ron Priestley, did not win any races at last year’s Royal Ascot. However, he is constantly improving and has scored four victories.

Sir Ron Priestley makes it into the top five horses for the Gold Cup.

Royal Ascot Results

The last two editions of the Gold Cup were won by Stradivarius, and the winner in 2017 was Big Orange. Stradivarius’ trainer, Frankie Dettori, has seven Gold Cup victories.

The 2019 Gold Cup second-place finisher was Dee Ex Vee, and the field followed with Master of Reality, Cross Counter, Flag of Honour, Capri, Raymond Tusk, Called To The Bar, Magic Circle, Thomas Hobson, and Cypress Creek.
